You may ask yourself, "Why should I adopt a cat and not buy my breed of choice. "Well it's very simple.  By adopting, you will be saving more than one life.  Many shelter and rescue organizations in the US are struggling with overcrowding and/or not enough volunteers to assist in the day to day care that cats need.  By adopting you are giving your new companion a second chance at life.  In the US alone, 3.4 million cats end up in shelters each year and of these about 27% are euthanized every year.
